"I have something to show you," the grandmother of one of our Confirmandi told me as I tried to hand her the Confirmation certificate to hold. She dug into her clutch, and she pulled out the decade Rosary she had made with her granddaughter at parent/grandparent day two years ago during Catholic Schools Week in my classroom. She told me that she carries it everywhere.
And, for some reason, that really touched me.
You never know what something means to someone else. Many of the decade Rosaries are now lost or gathering dust, but this woman still holds on to hers in a special way. (And this was the first time I had seen her since that day.)
Confirmation was already a special, wonderful night, but that moment made it just a little more special.
Here are some of the posters the kiddos made on retreat a few weeks ago - we hung these in the church on Friday night as part of the Confirmation celebration. 34 young men and women were sealed with the Holy Spirit - Amen!
"I have no idea where I am going; I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself...But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always..." -Thomas Merton
I have come to fall in love with teaching in Catholic schools. What are YOU in love with?...
